Just Another Community for Women?

We’ll let you decide.

Hi there, we’re Circle. And yes, we’re aware of the vast amount of women’s communities in London. But we also believe the more the merrier, as we each offer something different and can always collaborate.

So, what are we about? Firstly, we come across many women who lack confidence. You may have heard this powerful statistic: “Men apply for a job when they meet only 60% of the qualifications, but women apply only if they meet 100% of them.”

We know confidence is gained from feeling inspired by role models and by enhancing our skills, especially in this fast-paced digital world we’re living in. And because of our team’s collective experience in building engaging communities, we also know fostering meaningful connections is key.

The World of Work is Changing

We’re watching our world change drastically on a daily basis, especially the world of work.

Many of us are looking for lives different from our parents, where our fathers were the bread winners and our mothers stayed home to take care of the children.

If we want something different, we must influence the change we wish to see. Do you plan to continue your professional career after having children? It takes confidence to approach your employer and tell them what you need to make this balance manageable, but you can’t expect them to know if you don’t explain your needs.

Exhibit A: Enter a pregnant Sheryl Sandberg, circa 2004. After experiencing her own aching feet, she had to explain to Google’s (male) co-founders the need for pregnancy parking at the office. But she couldn’t expect men who’ve never been pregnant to know this. That’s why it deserves being mentioned again: we must ask for what we want. I bet you more times than not, our employers will understand.

And let’s not forget that men are an integral part of this conversation. And they’re eager to be part of it, we promise you that.

Gaining Inspiration from Our Role Models

So, how do we gain inspiration? By looking at the role models who are where aim to be. We’ll put these role models in front of you. They are real people who’ve overcome adversity, still struggle with confidence and likely have imposter syndrome. They are you and me.

Ultimately our aim is to help each and every one of you to trust your own path and choices in life and career. We believe this will better equip you to become the role models you look up to now. So we can all inspire the next generation.

So, What’s Next?

Here’s a snapshot of what you can look forward to from Circle:

- Events featuring raw, down-to-earth discussions about subjects we want to hear more about, such as: The Road to Leadership, We Are Humans, A Panel of Men Discussing Women in Tech

- Workshops to sharpen your skills within technology and digital

- A new approach to networking, so you always feel welcome and come away with valuable connections

So, is this just another community for women? Perhaps it is. But we hope it will become so much more to you.
